Bathroom Lighting

Bathroom Lighting Need Not Be Overly Decorative

Bathroom lighting done correctly can make your small bathroom a more usable, visually pleasing room in your house. The first thing to think about is the fact that a bathroom is used at all hours of the day or night. First let’s see what can be done to make nighttime use easier. A light switch that has a small light of its own would make finding it in the dark that much easier. No longer would you have to hunt around in the dark for the switch, which you are sure must be just under your fingertips. You will find it instantly and be able to turn the lights on easily.

Once the switching situation is under control you need to look and see what kind of bathroom lighting most suits the room you are working with. If it is a full bathroom, complete with bath, shower, toilet and sink your lighting options are much more. You want to make sure that whatever type of lighting your choose enables you to have enough light to use the whole bathroom.

If you have a mirror you may want to light it separately from the light you use for the general bathroom area. This too can be done. There are many bathroom lighting fixtures that are made to be used directly over the mirror.
The rest of the bathroom is really much simpler.

Bathroom lighting is not usually decorative as much as being functional. Fancy lights are not frequently used. Sometimes the lighting is recessed into the ceiling. This gives more head room while still providing adequate light. Others prefer lighting that is flush with the ceiling while still others may like to use wall lighting instead of ceiling lights. Flores ant lighting is also quite popular in bathrooms. It is believed by many to be a less intrusive type of lighting and it certainly is known to use less electricity.

Some people like to use lighting that can also provide a fan with it, especially if the bathroom window is very small. No matter what type of bathroom lighting you choose remember that this room does not need to be a fashion statement; it is only a bathroom.
